BioPAT® Process Insights software
Biomanufacturers typically rely on spreadsheets to scale up upstream processes. Sartorius' BioPAT® Process Insights program replaces spreadsheets to provide scale-up predictive capabilities in an easy-to-use interface. BioPAT® Process Insights is designed to reduce the need for costly and time-consuming engineering runs and to simplify scaling conversions to maximize the potential of Sartorius bioreactors.
Scientists, regardless of experience level, can evaluate multiple scale-up parameters on multiple Sartorius bioreactor scales simultaneously to detect high-risk transmissions earlier in workflows, saving time, money and resources.
Why Predictive Scaling is Important?
Producing biologic drugs for clinical trials or mass use at the lowest production cost requires efficient and effective scaling from process development to manufacturing.
Upstream scaling involves transferring a process, including its key process parameters, cells, products, and physical environment, from one scale to another. When scaling is done correctly, it ensures that the quality, quantity, and behavior of your biologic product at the final scale align with expectations at the initial scale.
However, scaling from one bioreactor to another is not simple. It requires mimicking the biological, physico-chemical, and mechanostructural properties of the cellular micro-environment when moving between different vessel volumes. Process transfer failure due to poor scaling can be very expensive – failed process cycles can cost up to 100 EUR/g for a 2,000 L bioreactor.
Main Applications of BioPAT® Process Insights
Upstream process development and production of suspension (Batch and Fed-Batch) cell cultures in Sartorius single-use and Univessel® Glass bioreactors, such as:
- Protein-based therapies (e.g., monoclonal antibodies/biosimilars) expressed in CHO cell lines
- Viral vector applications (suspension cultures only)
- Cell culture scaling in supported Sartorius bioreactors – from small bioreactors (starting at 15 mL) to large bioreactors (up to 2,000 L)
Simple Management of Upstream and Downstream Processes
The BioPAT® Process Insights license for 10 users enables the creation and sharing of workspaces within the team to analyze different scaling scenarios.
- Guided templates and a built-in help guide enable work customization regardless of user experience level
- Simultaneous assessment of multiple scaling parameters across different bioreactor scales
- Early identification of potential issues and high-risk transfers allows for process optimization to meet operational goals
How to Access the BioPAT® Process Insights Software Solution?
After placing an order, an automatic confirmation email is sent with a link to the My Sartorius portal, containing an activation ID. The BioPAT® Process Insights application is downloaded from the portal, and your IT team can then install it within your organization’s private network.
Access is available through a web browser (Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge) using your organization’s private intranet network. The use of the software does not require internet access.
