Virus retention for cell culture media

Virus retention filtration is a very effective method for mitigating the viral risk of cell culture media. This filter targets non-enveloped viruses, such as MVM and vesivirus, and large-enveloped viruses, such as MuLV. Virosart® Media is specifically designed to filter virus-defined cell culture media viruses.

Challenges in mitigating virus risk for media preparation

The multiple contaminants of bioreactors recorded over the last few years are caused by small non-enveloped viruses such as MVM and vesiviruses derived from raw materials.

A new virus risk mitigation strategy

The new strategy involves removing the virus before the bioreactor, immediately after media preparation, to prevent potential contamination of the bioreactor. Virus filtration is a proven and well-established technology on the market to remove all types of viruses (range > 20 nm).
